Reason #332:
I loved the night my sister and cousins tried to teach my mother and Aunt Dina Soulja Boy’s “Crank That” dance in the living room after dinner. My Aunt Dina is known for getting a few drinks in her and being willing to dance to just about anything. In fact, I don’t even know if the drinking is a requisite, she just likes to dance.
I like this memory because it just happened out of nowhere. My sister, and our cousins Abby and Hannah, got up and started doing the Souja Boy dance. I don’t know if you know it, but it’s stupid and also awesome. My mom didn’t participate immediately other than to laugh, but soon after the lesson was over, the entire family had moved to the backyard for an impromptu dance party. It was my mom, dad, sisters, cousins, aunts, everyone. It was fun and weird and a nice little memory I have of her and my dad’s side of the family.
And in case you’re wondering: yes, the picture above is of my mom, from that night, shakin’ it.
